Symposium on the Western Arts of Swordsmanship through History

The flagship event of the British Federation for Historical Swordplay, S.W.A.S.H.-UK is counted among the most prestigious Western Martial Art / Historical Swordsmanship events in the world.

7th of March  The Loose Cannons - The official AOBC band will be playing at The Old Oak (near the station), Arlesey, Bedfordshire - All welcome for a great night out!

13th to 15th  March - Original Re-enactors Market. Web site

TBC. 5th of April Green shield and Green/Red shield Grading's.

3rd  April Last training for Sandy AOBC before Easter.
7th  April Last training for Shefford AOBC and Lincs AOBC before Easter.

18th April The Legendary AOBC St Georges Banquet - AOBC annual banquet open to AOBC members only and invited guests. St Georges day is the 23rd of course but that’s a Thursday thus the banquet is on previous the Saturday night.

21st April Training starts for Shefford AOBC and Linc’s AOBC

24th April Training starts for Sandy AOBC.

TBC. 25th April - The Loose Cannons - The official AOBC band will be playing at Little Wymondley  - All welcome for a great night out!

9th & 10th May - Snailwell Medieval Fayre - This is a small but fun event for those AOBC members wishing to keep a hand in on the re-enactment front. Contact Pete for full details and take a look at the web site Click here

TBC. 29th May -  Dovers Hill English Olympick games - Games start at 7-30pm but it’s best to get there 1 hour before hand. The AOBC will be entering the Shin Kicking Tournament and Steve ‘The Bulldog’ Williams will be defending his 2008 title as the UK and the worlds Shin Kicking Champion. Go Steve Go! 6th & 7th June - Colchester Medieval Festival and Oyster Fayre - AOBC Backswording tournament. Players will be fighting for the coveted Oyster Fayre Cup. AOBC members can arrive on Friday the 5th from 12 noon to book in and pitch. www.oysterfayre.co.uk

28th  June - Cornish Wrestling workshop - To be held in Cornwall with the CWA. Details to follow.

11th & 12th July - The Tewkesbury Medieval festival, The battle of Tewkesbury - This is one more for those AOBC members who are also involved in re-enactment. A brilliant weekend event. Email for more information if any AOBC members wish to partake in the battle. www.tewkesburymedievalfestival.org

TBC. August - Some un-scheduled Sunday morning training may be booked for pre tournamnet training for those who are lucky enough to fight at the AOBC UK English Country Backswording Finals 2009 at Uffington.

30th & 31st August - AOBC UK finals 2009 held at the Uffington Country Show  -  The AOBC will be holding their 2009 Backswording Champions tournament at Uffington this year. 8 finalists, champions in their own right will be fighting over the weekend for the coveted Uffington Cup. This year will be the third time English Country Backswording has been played at Uffington for over a 150 years! Those old gamesters who take part will themselves be part of the rich tradition of country Backswording and go down in history. The champion will have their name placed on the cup which will be displayed as a permanent exhibit in the Tom Brown Museum at Uffington and take up their own place in English history.  The 2008 Champion is Pete ‘Buzzsaw’ Holland. http://www.whitehorseshow.co.uk/

TBC. Cornish Wrestling Workshop - We are hoping to book a weekend workshop for AOBC members with the Cornish Wrestling Association.

TBC - Period sword handling session - We hope to arrange a session at one of London’s museums to enable AOBC student the opportunity to handle period swords.
